Cernobbio
A stroll along Lake Como between the village and the villas
During a stay in Torno, you can spend half a day there or stay for longer, combining your stroll with a visit to the Villa Bernasconi Museum or an event open to the public at Villa Erba.
What to see in Cernobbio
La Riva and Piazza Risorgimento
Piazza Risorgimento, also known as La Riva di Cernobbio, is one of the main highlights of the visit. Here, the village opens out onto the lake, offering space to stroll, take in the view and enjoy a break.
You can start in this area before heading into the streets of the town centre. The route allows you to alternate between views of the water and glimpses of the village, without having to stick to a tight schedule.
The historic centre
From the Riva, continue through the streets of the historic centre, stopping to admire the houses, the little squares and the passageways that link the town to the lake. You might include the Church of San Vincenzo in your walk. Make sure you also allow time to pop into the local bars and shops: Cernobbio is best explored in short stops, which you can choose according to how much time you have.
The Villa Bernasconi Museum
Villa Bernasconi is an Art Nouveau residence that houses a museum dedicated to the history of the house and the people who have lived there. The tour offers an insight into another side of Cernobbio, linked to its architecture and industrial history.
It’s well worth a visit to round off your stroll through the village. Before you set off, do check the opening hours, admission details and any scheduled events.
Villa Erba and events open to the public
Villa Erba is a historic complex with a park overlooking the lake, now a venue for cultural events and gatherings.
Access to the villa and the park depends on opening times and the events scheduled. If you’d like to include a visit in your day, please check that a visit is scheduled and be aware of any entry requirements or booking conditions.
Villa d’Este
Villa d’Este is one of the most famous residences in Cernobbio and now houses a luxury hotel. It forms part of the history of hospitality on Lake Como, but it is not a museum villa with a standard public tour route.
When drawing up the programme, please therefore distinguish between hotels and venues open to visitors, and do not automatically assume that their gardens and interiors are accessible.
A guide to visiting Cernobbio
If there is an event open to the public at Villa Erba, plan the rest of your day around the time of the event. Alternatively, spend more time exploring the village and the lake, without adding too many stops.
How to get to Cernobbio from Torno
If you choose to take the boat, check the stops, any changes and return times: not all services follow the same route.
If you’re travelling by car, find a designated car park and check local traffic conditions, especially during events. Once you arrive, exploring the Riva and the town centre is best done on foot.
