Bellagio
A village to explore in the heart of Lake Como
Bellagio is situated on the promontory that separates the two southern branches of Lake Como. Its location allows you to take in the scenery from different perspectives, from the streets of the town center to the promenades along the water.
During a stay in Torno, you can spend a day exploring Belagio, choosing between the village, the gardens, and the surrounding hamlets. For a first visit, it’s best to plan just a few stops and leave plenty of time to walk, linger, and enjoy the view.
What to See in Bellagio
The Historic Center and the Basilica of San Giacomo
The streets of the historic center wind through hills, stairways, shops, and restaurants. As you stroll, you can alternate between the busiest thoroughfares and the side streets, taking in the buildings and the views that open up toward the lake.
In the upper part of the village stands the Basilica of San Giacomo, one of Bellagio’s most significant historical landmarks. The church square is a must-see stop on your walk before continuing toward the promontory.
Punta Spartivento
Punta Spartivento is a scenic overlook at the tip of the promontory. From here, the view opens up to the arms of the lake and the mountains that surround them.
You can visit it while exploring the town center and take a moment to stop and enjoy the view. It’s a place where you can appreciate Bellagio’s unique location and observe how the landscape changes along the different shores.
The Gardens of Villa Melzi
The Gardens of Villa Melzi offer a stroll through lush greenery, works of art, and views of the lake. They’re a great option for those who want to add a walk through nature to their visit to the village.
Be sure to allow enough time to explore them at a leisurely pace, and check the opening schedule and admission policies before you go.
Villa Serbelloni Park
Villa Serbelloni Park stretches across the promontory and offers views of the lake. Access is by guided tour only; therefore, you’ll need to plan this stop based on availability and the established procedures.
If you’d like to visit, make your reservation first and plan the rest of your day around that appointment.
Pescallo
Pescallo is a hamlet of Bellagio overlooking the Lecco branch of Lake Como. The small landing stage and the houses near the water offer a glimpse of another side of the town. You can add it to your walk if you have time, starting from the town center. It’s a stop that takes your visit beyond the village’s main streets.
A One-Day Itinerary in Bellagio
In the afternoon, you can choose between the Gardens of Villa Melzi, a guided tour of Villa Serbelloni Park, or a walk to Pescallo. You don’t have to fit all these stops into the same day: choose based on your interests and your return travel schedule.
What to Know Before Your Visit
To visit gardens and parks, check opening hours, ticket prices, and reservation requirements. During peak seasons, it may be helpful to start early, allowing plenty of time for travel and stops.
If you’re short on time, focus on the historic center and Punta Spartivento. You can save a visit to the gardens or the surrounding villages for another time.
How to Get to Bellagio from Torno
If you choose public transportation, check the stops, any transfers, and the departure and return times. Lake ferry schedules vary by service and season: verify the actual route before you leave.
If you’re traveling by car, factor in the time needed to find parking and check any restrictions on access to the town center. Once you arrive, you’ll mainly explore the town on foot.
